The Institution

India’s living heritage, carried forward by hand

Paramparā is a premium cultural institution that preserves and transmits India’s living heritage — art, craft, textiles, food, festivals, and story — across generations and across oceans. India’s traditions have been passed hand to hand, one generation teaching the next. They should not disappear in one generation of diaspora.

We don’t collect objects. We pass on skill. We partner with master artisans, document their knowledge, and place it where it belongs: in your family’s hands.

It Begins at the Threshold

Param Kala — Volume I: Kolam

An educational heirloom experience: an archival guidebook, progressive pattern cards, a practice mat, the materials themselves, and a Certificate of Transmission carrying the artisan’s own hand. Inside the lid, the Living Atlas of India — the wider map this volume belongs to. Filmed with a master artisan in Tamil Nadu.

“A photograph of a kolam is a record. A child who knows how to make one is a living tradition.”
The Founding Story

Paramparā began at a Vaasal in Tamil Nadu at dawn during Margazhi. A grandmother’s hands placing dots on the cold floor of the threshold. Lines flowing without hesitation. A lotus emerging from nothing. A small girl watching.

“What our grandmothers knew deserves to outlive them.”

Who It Is For

Made to be used, not just displayed

Every parent in Seattle or London or Singapore who feels the gap between the India they came from and the children they are raising. Every grandparent who wants to give something that outlasts a toy. Every child who deserves to know: your hands carry five thousand years of knowledge.

Founding Families

Come with us from the beginning

Paramparā isn’t launching with a finished product. We’re beginning with a question: how do we make sure India’s living traditions outlive us?

Kolam is the first tradition we’re documenting. This work takes time. You’ll receive occasional notes from the journey —

When Volume I is ready, founding families will be the first to know.
